July - Zine workshop #21 with Phil Sabolta

  • Arts & Cultural Exchange Parramatta 8 Victoria Road Parramatta, NSW, 2150 Australia (map)

Learn to make a zine, work on your own publication, and connect with fellow zinesters.

SoZ #21 will be hosted by School of Zines creator Aphrodite and co-facilitated by special guest zinester Phil Sabolta a.k.a @scribblin_phil

Phil loves ramen (follow his reviews at @phillovesramen), RISO printing, zines, toys, art, games, Japan & everything in between. He’s a RISO master at The Rizzeria and a friendly face at zine fairs. Phil & Aph collaborated on the zine Phil Loves Ramen in 2025, which they launched at the Parramatta Zine Fair.

Are you an otaku* (おたく) for cool things? Love Ramen? Want to geek out over all things print and get an intro to riso**? Hang out with Phil and the SoZ crew – let’s make ZINES!

Art materials, paper, and resources will be provided. Feel free to bring your own inspo or materials to work with.

___

*otaku: a Japanese term used to describe someone with an obsessive, intense interest in a specific hobby or subculture.

**riso: Riso or risograph is a printing process that bridges screen printing and photocopying that yields bright, bold, textured prints with charming, handmade characteristics like slight misalignments and unique colour overlays.

**PLEASE NOTE: We will be covering the basics of risograph printing at the workshop as an example of zine-making techniques BUT we don’t have an actual riso printer at ACE. Visit The Rizzeria studio to book a risoprinting session or attend a riso workshop in-person or online.
